Plug Power Inc. has announced the signing of a letter of intent with Hy2gen for the supply of a 5-megawatt proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser for the Sunrhyse project, located in Signes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. This partnership aims to support the production and distribution of renewable hydrogen in compliance with Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) criteria, in line with France’s national hydrogen roadmap.
A structuring project for regional logistics
The Sunrhyse project, developed by Hy2gen, is a strategic element of the regional hydrogen infrastructure. The installation of the electrolyser will supply green hydrogen to local transport, logistics and industrial operators, with targeted distribution across southeastern France. Plug Power also plans to expand its integrated logistics solutions, including hydrogen-powered forklifts, across regional logistics hubs.
The partnership lays the foundation for a replicable model for renewable hydrogen production and distribution at the European level. Hy2gen, specialised in the development and operation of RFNBO-certified production units, strengthens its position in the French market with a project designed to meet national hydrogen strategy objectives.
Extension of the European hydrogen network
This new agreement is part of Plug Power’s European strategy, which currently includes production operations in Germany and the Netherlands. The company is establishing an operational network to ensure the availability of green hydrogen for various industrial and logistical uses.
Plug Power President and Chief Revenue Officer Jose Luis Crespo stated that the project represents “an important step in Plug’s European growth,” highlighting the company’s commitment to local hydrogen ecosystems. Hy2gen Chief Executive Officer Cyril Dufau-Sansot said that Sunrhyse is “a major advance in France’s hydrogen transition.”
