AfDB Grants $16.5M to Kenya for a 35 MW Geothermal Power Plant
The African Development Bank approves a loan for the OrPower Twenty-Two project in the Menengai field. This facility represents the third phase of a program targeting 105 MW of geothermal capacity.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is strengthening its commitment to Kenya’s geothermal sector. The institution approved a $16.5M loan in late 2025 to finance the development of the OrPower Twenty-Two (OTTL) power plant, with a capacity of 35 MW. The project is located in the Menengai field, north of Nakuru.
