Eolus North America completed on February 13, 2026, the sale of the Roccasecca battery energy storage system (BESS), with a capacity of 127 MW / 506 MWh, located in Boulder City, Nevada, to DESRI, an independent power producer. The transaction, executed as an all-cash deal, includes the transfer of all shares of the Roccasecca special purpose vehicle (SPV) to the buyer. IOWN Energy facilitated the transaction on behalf of Eolus. The sale comes amid strong sector growth, as US energy storage installations reached a record 18.9 GW in 2025.

$290 Million in Senior Secured Credit Facilities

Alongside the sale, approximately $290 million in senior secured credit facilities were arranged, including loans and letters of credit to support project construction and operations. Zions Bancorporation, Société Générale, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Bayerische Landesbank (BayernLB) acted as Coordinating Lead Arrangers. The deal includes a 15-year tolling agreement, along with equipment supply and engineering and construction agreements, all negotiated and secured prior to the sale.

IOWN Energy says it delivered Roccasecca as a fully contracted, construction-ready asset. According to Hans-Christian Schulze, CEO and President of IOWN Energy, this model — combining contracted revenues with optimized construction risk allocation — "continues to generate strong demand from institutional investors and independent power producers." DESRI has assumed all rights and obligations associated with the project and is managing construction through completion.

Commercial Operation Expected in 2026

The Roccasecca project is currently under construction and is expected to reach commercial operation in 2026. According to IOWN, it will contribute to strengthening grid reliability and flexibility in the U.S. Southwest power market. Per Witalisson, CEO of Eolus AB, said the group intends to reinvest the proceeds into new opportunities within the North American pipeline.

Peter Koczanski, Head of Corporate Development at DESRI, confirmed the expansion of the partnership with Eolus and IOWN, reaffirming the acquirer's commitment to grid stability in Nevada. Battery storage is increasingly being integrated into renewable energy support mechanisms in multiple jurisdictions, as illustrated by the French energy regulator CRE's proposal to adapt support for large photovoltaic installations with storage. This trend reinforces the appeal of projects like Roccasecca for institutional investors.

More Than 1 GW Facilitated Since 2021

Since expanding its U.S. operations in 2021, IOWN Energy says it has facilitated the development and sale of more than 1 GW of wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects. The company also states it has supported the arrangement of more than $2 billion in equity and debt financing for renewable energy projects currently operational or under construction in the United States. IOWN focuses on premium power markets and maintains in-house capabilities in engineering, construction, and asset management, with a stated specialization in energy storage projects in the U.S. Southwest.
