NextNRG, Inc. has signed a memorandum of understanding with A123 Systems LLC to jointly evaluate the deployment of battery energy storage systems produced within the United States. The agreement comes as national demand for storage solutions accelerates, driven by grid modernisation and growing requirements for energy resilience across critical infrastructure.
An agreement to reduce tariff exposure
By focusing on locally manufactured lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, NextNRG aims to reduce its exposure to import duties and disruptions related to international trade. The company seeks more predictable project execution while diversifying its supplier ecosystem. A123 Systems thus becomes one of the key technology partners within NextNRG’s storage supply chain.
The memorandum establishes a preliminary framework for evaluating large-scale opportunities prioritising domestic manufacturing and sourcing. Both companies have also expressed their intent to explore further strategic cooperation, including the potential development of a US-based production facility, with no upfront capital investment required from NextNRG.
A partnership focused on growth and execution speed
The targeted systems include 5-megawatt-hour storage units housed in standard 20-foot containers, intended for NextNRG’s projects in the healthcare, commercial, and utility sectors. This type of modular solution allows for quick on-site integration, while adapting to scale requirements specific to each market segment.
Under the terms of the agreement, A123 Systems will provide its proven technology and US-based manufacturing capabilities, while NextNRG will lead deployment through its expertise in project development and AI-driven energy system integration.
A response to the transformation of the US energy market
The rapid growth of the battery storage market in the United States is fuelled by the expansion of renewable energy and the need to secure electrical grids against climate-related disruptions and demand spikes. Increasing preferences for locally manufactured solutions, supported by federal incentives and tariff adjustments, are prompting developers to reorganise their supply chains.
By anticipating these dynamics, NextNRG positions itself to deliver an industrial response aligned with its expanding national projects. The partnership with A123 aims to secure reliable access to high-performance storage systems built in the United States, amid rising pressure on global production capacity.
