RWE has recently completed the construction of its largest onshore wind farm in Italy, Mondonuovo, located in the Apulia region near Brindisi. The park, with a total capacity of 53.1 MW, consists of nine turbines, each with a capacity of 5.9 MW. It is designed to supply green electricity to around 55,000 Italian households, contributing to the country’s energy transition.
Continued expansion in Italy
The project required a year of construction work, during which 150 RWE employees and experts from external service providers were involved. The completion of Mondonuovo strengthens RWE’s presence in Italy, where the company now operates 17 wind farms and one solar plant, totaling a combined capacity of 589 MW.
A key milestone for decarbonisation
The inauguration of Mondonuovo is part of RWE’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Italy. The company continues to invest in wind and solar projects to support the energy transition and meet the growing demand for green power. RWE also highlights its role in helping the country achieve its energy goals while enhancing the stability and sustainability of its energy supply.
According to Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, the commissioning of Mondonuovo is an important moment in supporting Italy’s transition to clean, stable, and cost-effective energy. “A big thank you to the RWE team, the local community, and all the companies and partners involved,” she said. With this new project, RWE’s renewable energy capacity in Italy now provides power to over 500,000 households.
