Swedish group OX2 has announced the acquisition of three onshore wind energy projects in Romania, representing a total capacity of 235 megawatts (MW). These projects, located in Vaslui and Vrancea counties, were purchased from local company Future Power. This transaction brings OX2’s Romanian portfolio to over 1.1 gigawatts (GW), strengthening its position in one of Central Europe’s most dynamic energy markets.

Projects scheduled by 2030

According to the company’s estimates, the projects are expected to be commissioned between 2028 and 2030, subject to permitting. OX2 is also developing additional wind assets in areas identified for their strong wind potential, including the counties of Constanța, Brăila and Galați.

This strategy is part of the company’s ongoing expansion in Romania. “The transaction with Future Power marks another step in our business development strategy in Romania,” said Lăcrămioara Diaconu-Pințea, Vice President and Country Manager of OX2 Romania. She noted that the company focuses on bankable projects with clear commissioning timelines to attract new capital.

A rapidly diversifying portfolio

OX2 currently manages nine onshore wind projects in Romania, with 195 MW under construction and 766 MW in development. The company is also developing 150 MW of solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects. This diversification reflects a strategy aimed at deeper integration of variable energy sources into Romania’s energy mix.

Over the past two years, OX2 has also closed major deals with industry players, including Nala Renewables for 99 MW and HELLENiQ Renewables for 96 MW. These transactions highlight the increasing attractiveness of the Romanian market to European renewable energy investors.
