Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas will double the production capacity of its blade plant located in Goleniow, north-western Poland. This industrial upgrade is part of a broader effort to meet rising demand in the European market, particularly in Germany, where onshore wind is rapidly accelerating.

Strengthening production for the V172-7.2 MW turbine

The plant expansion will add a second production line dedicated to blades for the V172-7.2 MW model, designed for high-capacity onshore installations. Vestas stated that this production will mainly target the growing German market. Germany installed 2.2 gigawatts (GW) of onshore wind in the first half of 2025, a 67% increase compared to the previous year.

Projections show the German market could reach 5.1 GW of installations for the full year, reinforcing its position as the largest onshore wind market in Europe. In this context, Vestas’ capacity ramp-up represents a direct industrial response to regional demand growth.

Consolidating operations in Poland

The Goleniow facility, acquired in September from LM Wind Power, is now integrated into Vestas’ wider European manufacturing network. The Danish group currently operates ten industrial sites across the continent. In Poland, Vestas employs around 2,300 people, with more than 300 new hires planned to support the expansion.

Goleniow was chosen for its established industrial base and proximity to key Central European markets. This localisation strategy aims to streamline logistics while ensuring supply chain continuity for European clients.

A regional demand-oriented industrial partnership

With this expansion, Vestas confirms its regionalised production strategy focused on high-growth markets. By supplying Germany directly from Poland, the manufacturer enhances its competitiveness by reducing logistical costs and improving supply chain responsiveness.

The project forms part of a broader industrial coordination effort across Vestas’ European sites, seeking to pool resources in support of onshore wind development across the continent. This operational partnership between Poland and Germany reflects the evolving renewable energy value chains at the regional level.
