Axpo sells 4 wind farms in France

Axpo announces that it has finalized the sale of four wind farms, all located in France, with a combined capacity of 65.5 MW.

Axpo announces that it has finalized the sale of four wind farms in France. The transaction with Greencoat Renewables PLC is worth several million euros.

4 wind farms sold

The four wind farms included in this purchase are Génonville (20.3 MW), Grande Pièce (19.8 MW), Arcy-Précy (16.0 MW) and Butte de Menonville (9.4 MW). They represent a total installed capacity of 65.5 MW.

The commissioning of the latter was done by the Axpo subsidiary Volkswid. Developed from 2017 and 2022, these plants will produce a combined 178,500 MWh of electricity each year.

Volkswind has been owned by the Swiss company since its acquisition in 2015. Axpo is a leading Swiss renewable energy company. With a presence in 30 countries in Europe, North America and Asia, the company is also a leader in the international market. It is guided by a single goal, to provide a sustainable future through renewable energy.

Axpo growing in Europe

The acquisition of Volkswind will enable Axpo to expand significantly in France and Germany. The subsidiary has so far developed 80 wind farms and the company’s strategy is not only to sell them. In fact, it also keeps some to further expand its portfolio.

Christoph Sutter, Head of Renewable Energy at Axpo, says:

“With this transaction, we continue to generate solid revenues from our extensive wind farm portfolio and development pipeline in France. In addition, this project once again underscores that our strategy is paying off.”

Volkswind has therefore developed a large number of power plants to date, with a total installed capacity of over 1,350 MW. But the company does not intend to stop there. The development and sale of these four wind farms is just the beginning. Axpo plans to develop 3 GW of wind power plants in France and Germany by 2030.
