Vestas announces a partnership with LM Wind Power. This decision was made in order to strengthen its wind energy supply chain for the V172-7.2 MW blades.

A partnership with promise

This is not the first partnership between Vestas and LM Wind Power. In fact, it is simply an extension of an earlier agreement to manufacture V150 blades in Brazil. However, the partnership that takes place here is broader. It covers the design and manufacture of blades for the V172-7.2 MW wind turbines of the EnVentus platform.

This agreement demonstrates Vestas’ strategy to enable efficient production in its supply chain. LM Wind Power will build the blades according to the expectations of its partner. This mode of operation allows for optimal use of resources in the face of Vestas’ clear need.

With production scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024, this type of operation should prove promising for the future of renewable energy.

Tommy Rahbek, Executive Vice President and COO of Vestas, says:

“This new partnership highlights how we are increasingly working with partners in a flexible configuration to effectively evolve and build on the foundation we have established in our global supply chain. We aim to leverage LM Wind Power’s proven and extensive engineering and manufacturing capabilities, coupled with their global footprint, to support our customers with high-quality sustainable energy solutions that meet all Vestas standards.”

A necessary alliance for Vestas

Vestas, the wind turbine company, is the energy industry’s global partner for sustainable energy solutions. In January 2022, it was named the world’s most sustainable company. Thus, its place in the energy sector is well established.

Present in 88 countries around the world, it launched in 2019 a project: the EnVentus platform. The company has already received 6 GW of orders from 15 different markets on four continents for this new platform.

With four variants of wind turbines, with the V172-7.2 MW since April 2022, this project is colossal. Thus, this new partnership with LM Wind Power was, in this case, necessary to adequately respond to the numerous worldwide orders.

This partner has factories in many countries around the world. This is important, as it will allow Vestas to produce its blades as close as possible.

Thus, by creating this partnership, the two companies are enabling smarter and more optimal production, a big step towards the energy transition.
