RWE, the third-largest renewable energy producer in the United States, has announced the extension of its partnership with GE Vernova to supply domestically produced wind turbines for two energy projects located in Texas. This partnership aims to meet the growing energy demand while supporting the economic development of the state’s rural areas. The projects include the modernization of the Forest Creek wind farm, with a capacity of 127 MW, and the construction of the 181 MW Honey Mesquite wind farm, which will begin in Fall 2025.

These initiatives will enhance domestic energy production, generating a total of 308 MW. GE Vernova will supply 109 of its 2.82 MW turbines manufactured in the United States for the two projects. This partnership signals RWE’s commitment to supporting national manufacturing and addressing the energy needs of the industrial and technology sectors in Texas.

Modernization of the Forest Creek wind farm

The Forest Creek project involves modernizing the existing facility, with the decommissioning of all old turbines and infrastructure. New foundations for 45 GE Vernova turbines will be constructed. This process will extend the operational life of the wind farm by 30 years, with operations expected to resume by the end of 2025. This project highlights the importance of optimizing existing farms to maximize energy production while minimizing environmental impacts, with a recycling program for the components of the old equipment.

A major investment for the local economy

The Honey Mesquite wind farm, which will begin construction in the coming months, will generate hundreds of jobs during its construction phase and is expected to have significant economic benefits for the region. Together, these projects will inject millions of dollars into the local economy. RWE has invested more than $9 billion in Texas since 2007, reflecting its long-term commitment to the state. These projects will also increase local tax revenues, with an estimated $60 million in tax income for Glasscock and Sterling Counties over the lifespan of the projects.

A partnership to strengthen national energy security

These projects are part of a broader effort to strengthen the energy security of the United States by increasing the share of domestic energy in overall production. GE Vernova, with its expertise in manufacturing wind turbines in the U.S., is contributing to the revitalization of national industrial production and the creation of new jobs in the renewable energy sector. This partnership underscores the synergy between public and private sector players to support the expansion of renewable energy and the modernization of energy infrastructure.
