FRV partners with Envision for a 500MW green ammonia project in Brazil

Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of the Jameel Energy group, has selected Envision Energy as its strategic partner for the development of the H2 Cumbuco green ammonia project in Brazil. The partnership covers the construction of an electrolysis plant with a capacity of up to 500MW, fully integrated into an ammonia industrial site and targeted to be operational by 2030.

A major project for the green ammonia industry

The H2 Cumbuco project will be located at the Port of Pecém, a strategic area for export and the development of Brazil’s chemical industry. Envision Energy will bring its recognised expertise in integrating renewable solutions and deploying artificial intelligence (AI) systems to manage the entire chain, from renewables to green hydrogen. This alliance combines FRV’s experience, with 3GW of operational assets in storage and renewable energy, and Envision’s technology-driven approach already proven on major international projects.

According to Henry Peng, Senior Vice President and President for Latin America and Europe at Envision, the collaboration aims to establish new standards for large-scale energy transition projects. Envision recently delivered the world’s largest off-grid green hydrogen and ammonia plant using AI in China, demonstrating the company’s capability to industrialise such solutions.

International strategy and project progress

FRV has been active for several years in the development of renewable hydrogen projects across several continents, notably with two publicly funded projects in Spain. The group continues to expand its portfolio with H2 Cumbuco, which has progressed through securing land and water rights, as well as completing engineering and environmental permitting steps.

The production of green ammonia is intended primarily for the domestic Brazilian market, but also for export to Europe and Asia. This positioning is aligned with growing demand for green hydrogen and its derivatives, particularly in industrial and maritime transport sectors.

Prospects for the hydrogen sector and Brazil

The alliance between FRV and Envision comes as Brazil strengthens its ambition to become a key player in the production of green molecules, supported by a favourable geography and strong public backing. The country, host of this year’s Conference of the Parties (COP30), is seeking to establish itself on the international low-carbon stage, focusing on the export of green hydrogen and ammonia.

Felipe Hernández, Chief Innovation Officer at FRV, stated that “the development of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives is a fundamental pillar” for the company. According to him, Brazil’s strategy and current regulatory framework present an opportunity for large-scale industrial deployment, likely to transform the energy sector and open new commercial opportunities for export.
