EDP Renewables (EDPR) consolidates its position in the renewable energies sector in France. Awarded a contract for an 11MW wind farm by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) during the last call for tenders, the company won a 20-year contract. Scheduled to come on stream in 2025, the project fits seamlessly into the company’s already substantial 630MW portfolio in France.

EDPR’s diversification strategy

EDPR, a global company specializing in the development of renewable energy projects, is determined to play a major role in France’s energy transition. However, the Saint-Bon wind farm in the Marne region of France is a symbol of this commitment. The award of this project underlines CRE’s confidence in EDPR’s ability to contribute effectively to the national objective of decarbonizing the energy mix.

EDPR’s commitment to Energy Transition

The announcement of this project comes at a time when France is aiming to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. The Saint-Bon wind farm, with its three turbines, represents a significant step towards this goal. However, the project was authorized in June 2023, after a rigorous development process that included consultation and approval from local stakeholders, as well as a favorable opinion from the commission of inquiry.

EDPR expansion and innovation in 2025

EDPR has been present in France for more than 15 years and boasts an impressive portfolio of installed capacity. In addition to the 630MW in operation, the company has over 230MW in ownership and a project development pipeline of almost 1.5GW. In 2023, EDPR also diversified its technological portfolio, inaugurating its first photovoltaic project in France.

This development is part of EDPR’s broader strategy in France. Through its French subsidiary, the company plays a key role in the development, financing, construction and operation of wind and photovoltaic farms across the country. With a team of 120 people, EDPR France manages 601MW in operation, including 213MW of installed capacity on its own account and 388MW on behalf of third parties. What’s more, this capacity enables us to supply more than a million people and avoid the emission of more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.

EDPR, with its new 11MW wind power project and continued expansion in France, reinforces its commitment to a sustainable energy transition. Indeed, the Saint-Bon wind farm and the diversification of the company’s technological portfolio underline its leading role in the renewable energies sector and its significant contribution to France’s zero-emissions objective.
