The Silvan power plant, located on the Kulp stream near Diyarbakır, will generate 681 GWh of electricity annually, boosting Turkey’s energy supply.

A Strategic Investment

ANDRITZ will supply four 40 MW turbines, four generators, and a 154 kV substation system. This project is an important step in Turkey ‘s strategy to diversify its energy sources and modernize its electricity infrastructure.

Economic impact

The Silvan power plant will play a key role in the economic development of the Diyarbakır region. The construction and operation of the plant will create local jobs and stimulate the regional economy. This investment demonstrates Turkey’s determination to strengthen its energy independence and modernize its infrastructure. Frank Mette, Managing Director of ANDRITZ Hydro Türkiye, emphasized: “We are proud to contribute to this essential project for energy in Turkey.”

Background and outlook

The Silvan project is part of a wider initiative involving eight dams and 23 irrigation facilities. The Silvan dam, the country’s second-largest structure after the Atatürk dam, is a crucial element in this strategy. In August 2022, the Turkish president announced significant progress, indicating that the Silvan dam would soon start producing energy. The Babakaya tunnel, a key component of the project, is also nearing completion.
