Hy2gen and Ocean Connect Energy agree on green hydrogen

Hy2gen USA Inc, a subsidiary of global green hydrogen producer Hy2gen, and offshore wind energy developer Ocean Connect Energy Inc (OCE) have signed a memorandum of understanding to evaluate and develop favorable sites for the production of renewable hydrogen fueled by offshorewind energy. This collaboration aims to identify and exploit areas with high energy capacity, often limited by grid transmission constraints or low electricity demand.

Synergies between offshore wind and green hydrogen

David White, President of Hy2gen USA Inc. points out that producing green hydrogen near offshore wind energy interconnection points can create a predictable and sustainable demand for this energy, reducing the need for new transmission infrastructure. Kevin Banister, CEO of Ocean Connect Energy, adds that green hydrogen can change the offshore wind development paradigm by offering an integrated, efficient solution.

Integration Challenges and Opportunities

The 10-month collaborative working group will focus on areas where offshore wind development is hampered by transmission limitations and other factors. Integrating renewable hydrogen production with offshore wind power not only overcomes these obstacles, but also optimizes infrastructure investments and speeds up the execution of wind power projects.

Regulatory Framework and Common Commitment

Hy2gen is committed to producing renewable fuels that meet the highest standards set by the clean hydrogen regulatory framework, as defined by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and U.S. Treasury Department guidelines. The collaboration with OCE, which has experience in the development of offshore wind projects, aims to provide an energy profile tailored to electricity demand for the production of green hydrogen.

Economic and environmental benefits

The integrated co-development of offshore wind projects and green hydrogen production offers a holistic solution to meet future energy needs. Offshore wind power, with its high capacity factor and large-scale construction potential, can provide stable and abundant energy for the production of green hydrogen, thus contributing to the global energy transition. By combining the capabilities of offshore wind power and green hydrogen, this collaboration aims to propel the renewable energy sector towards a more sustainable future;
