Carrefour Polska has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EDP, one of the world’s leading renewable energy developers. This contract will cover up to 30% of Carrefour’s electricity consumption in Poland from renewable sources. The agreement involves an annual volume of 50 GWh, sourced from two projects operated by EDP Renewables, combining both solar and wind installations.
A hybrid model to meet industrial demand
This contract represents a first for EDP in Poland by integrating two renewable technologies within a single PPA. This approach allows for a more accurate alignment between energy supply and client consumption profiles. EDP, through EDP Renewables, has already developed more than 1 GW of renewable capacity across Poland, further consolidating its position in the national market.
The agreement forms part of Carrefour’s broader strategy under its “Carrefour 2026” plan, which aims to optimise energy efficiency across its sites. As of November 2025, Carrefour Polska had already reduced its electricity consumption by 37.03% compared to 2019, significantly surpassing its initial goal of a 20% reduction by 2026.
A lever to accelerate EDP’s investment
The PPA follows a partnership already in place since 2024, under which thirteen rooftop photovoltaic systems were installed on supermarkets across five Polish provinces. The new contract will avoid more than 54,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
For EDP, these types of agreements are a key tool to stimulate the development of new energy infrastructure. In 2024, the group surpassed 15 GW of contracted PPA capacity worldwide, representing 41.5 TWh of renewable output, including 2.2 GW in Europe.
Expansion of EDP’s corporate operations in Poland
Active in Poland since 2007 through EDP Renewables, the company expanded its local footprint in 2020 with the launch of EDP Energia Polska, dedicated to solar solutions for corporate clients. EDP Renewables currently operates more than 0.6 GW of installed capacity in Poland, while EDP Energia Polska has secured nearly 270 MWp through long-term contracts.
This new agreement with Carrefour Polska illustrates EDP’s expansion strategy in the corporate segment, combining local production and technological flexibility to meet market demand.
