Canadian pension fund La Caisse has signed an agreement to acquire Australian company Edify in a transaction worth CAD1bn (€611mn). This strategic investment aims to finance two projects combining solar energy production and battery storage, reinforcing the group’s international ambitions.
Founded in 2015, Edify has established itself in Australia as a developer and operator of power plants based on renewable energy. The company currently operates several photovoltaic plants and large-scale storage systems. This acquisition will support the growth of its projects while strengthening the stability of the Australian grid, according to statements from its executives.
A targeted move on energy diversification
La Caisse, formerly known as Caisse de dépôt et de placement du Québec (CDPQ), has a diversified portfolio with investments in over 65 countries. As of June 30, 2025, its net assets amounted to CAD496bn ($364bn). The operation with Edify is part of a broader strategy to expand into long-term energy assets, particularly in mature markets such as Australia.
La Caisse Executive Vice President Emmanuel Jaclot indicated that this investment would enable Edify to accelerate the implementation of hybrid energy projects, contributing to the reliability of the local grid. For John Cole, Edify’s founder and president, the deal marks a significant step forward in the company’s financial strength.
A strong signal to the Australian market
Australia, whose energy mix is rapidly evolving, is attracting growing interest from institutional investors seeking to capitalise on projects integrating solar production and storage. By partnering with Edify, La Caisse strengthens its position in a key market while securing energy assets capable of generating stable long-term returns.
With a consolidated global presence and recognised expertise in infrastructure, La Caisse continues its strategy of direct investments in energy platforms able to deliver consistent yields, while meeting the growing needs of electric grids in targeted countries.
