Envision Energy, a global provider of intelligent renewable energy solutions, has signed an agreement with FERA Australia, a specialised Australian developer, to develop hybrid projects combining wind and battery storage on the national electricity market. The announcement was made during the Australia Energy Wind Conference, highlighting the goal of reaching up to 1 GW of wind capacity and 1.5 GWh of energy storage.

A hybrid model to strengthen grid flexibility
This agreement establishes an unprecedented framework in Australia, combining FERA Australia’s expertise in local development and Envision Energy’s integrated technology. According to the companies, the future projects will use advanced wind turbines, containerised battery systems, power conversion systems adapted to the grid, and a proprietary hybrid management system called Hybrid Power Plant Controller (HPPC).

The stated objective is to provide a flexible and modular solution capable of supporting the reliability of the Australian grid while facilitating the integration of variable sources. Kane Xu, Senior Vice President and President of the International Product Line at Envision Energy, stated in the release that this collaboration “represents a major step forward in demonstrating how hybrid wind and storage solutions can unlock new possibilities for Australia’s energy future”, specifying the intention to “set new standards for clean, flexible energy”.

A first pilot project in the State of Victoria
The operational launch of the collaboration will be a pilot project in the State of Victoria, which will integrate the latest full-converter turbines, grid-forming battery storage, and the HPPC platform. This grid-connected hybrid power plant aims to illustrate the benefits of combined systems in terms of reliability and operation of the electricity network.

Sebastiano Falesi, Head of FERA Australia and Member of the Board of Directors of FERA Group, highlighted the importance of “integrating storage and wind in a hybrid project” and presented this initiative as “a model for future achievements in the country”. The partners thus wish to demonstrate the capacity of hybrid projects to support the transformation of the Australian electricity mix.

Development prospects for the Australian sector
By relying on the combination of FERA’s local expertise and Envision Energy’s international experience, the two groups aim to accelerate the deployment of large-scale renewable production and storage solutions. This initiative comes in a context of increased demand for flexibility and grid stability on the Australian market, in response to the growth of intermittent energies.

The announced cooperation is part of the current trend towards integrating storage technologies with renewable generation infrastructure, confirming the growing interest of sector players in large-scale hybrid models. According to Envision Energy, “the rapid advancement of renewable projects remains crucial to supporting the country’s transition to zero-carbon energy”.
