thyssenkrupp nucera, a global specialist in electrolysis technologies, announced it has finalised the acquisition of strategic technology assets from Danish company Green Hydrogen Systems. The deal was concluded after obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals and the consent of the court-appointed insolvency administrator overseeing the company.
The transaction includes intellectual property and a test site equipped with a full-scale prototype located in Skive, Denmark. With this acquisition, thyssenkrupp nucera is reinforcing its portfolio in alkaline water electrolysis (AWE), now adding solutions that operate under pressure.
A stronger position in pressurised electrolysis
The acquired technology enables hydrogen production at pressures of up to 35 bar, offering significant operational advantages for industrial applications requiring compressed hydrogen. This technical addition expands the capabilities of thyssenkrupp nucera, already positioned as one of the leading global suppliers of electrolysis units.
The German company did not disclose the exact purchase price but indicated it was in the high single-digit million euro range. The acquisition was fully financed from the group’s existing liquidity, without the need for additional external funding.
Focus on industrial innovation
thyssenkrupp nucera stated that this transaction forms part of its technology roadmap, aiming to accelerate the development of solutions tailored to industrial market needs. The Skive site and related patents are expected to support the scale-up of trials and development of large-scale pressurised systems.
The Chief Executive Officer of thyssenkrupp nucera described the acquisition as “a crucial technological lever” for the company’s growth in a context of rising demand for more efficient hydrogen production solutions adapted to existing infrastructures.
