In Tataouine, Tunisia, the joint venture between Eni and ETAP has announced the start of production of the photovoltaic plant.

A 20-year plan

In Tataouine, in the south of Tunisia, the photovoltaic plant of Eni and ETAP has a capacity of 10MW. Thus, the solar installation will provide more than 20GWh of electricity per year to the Tunisian network. In addition, it will save approximately 210,000 tons of CO2 equivalent over the life of the project.

The electricity produced will supply STEG (Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz) under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The Tataouine facility will contribute to the Tunisian decarbonization process. Moreover, the initiative is part of the objective of the energy transition of Tunisia.

A hybrid generation

In Tunisia, Eni also operates the ADAM photovoltaic field, with a maximum capacity of 5MW. The site feeds the adjacent ADAM field in the governorate of Tataouine. Thus, it allows gas savings.

The ADAM solar package is a hybrid generation system. It allows emission reductions of more than 6,500 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. Thus, it appears as one of the most innovative, efficient and available systems at the moment.

An ancient presence

The plant, built by Société Energies Renouvelables Eni ETAP (SEREE), is a joint venture between Eni and ETAP. This group operates mainly in the production of energy from renewable sources. In addition, Eni is present in the Global Gas LNG Portfolio with the management of the Transmed pipeline linking Algeria to Italy, via Tunisia.

Eni is also present in refining and marketing activities. This project could pave the way for other Eni projects in the region. In addition, this photovoltaic project would unlock new funding for Tunisia’s energy transition.
