Macquarie Asset Management to dispose of its UK wind farm holdings

Macquarie Asset Management is selling part of its UK offshore wind portfolio to Equitix, an infrastructure and investment manager. This transaction includes shares in eight operational offshore wind farms, making this portfolio one of the largest and most diversified in the world.

Equitix, a UK-based infrastructure manager and investor, has agreed to acquire interests in eight offshore wind farms located around the UK from Macquarie Asset Management. The agreement involves the sale of Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 5’s 50% stake in Offshore Wind Company to funds managed by Equitix.

Macquarie Asset Management continues its activity in wind energy

Offshore Wind Company holds various direct and indirect interests in a 2.4 GW portfolio of eight operational offshore wind farms, which is one of the largest and most diversified offshore wind portfolios in the world. The portfolio includes direct interests in the Rampion, Galloper and Westermost Rough offshore wind farms, among others. Offshore Wind Company also has indirect interests in several other offshore wind farms through a limited partnership interest in the Macquarie Green Investment Group 1 Renewable Energy Fund.

Following the transaction, Macquarie Asset Management and its Green Investment Group will continue to manage interests in several other offshore wind farms, including Gwynt y Môr, Sheringham Shoal, Lincs, Lynn and Inner Dowsing, and Rhyl Flats. They will do so through Macquarie Green Investment Group’s Renewable Energy Funds 1 and 2, as well as their investments in the Race Bank and East Anglia One offshore wind farms. In addition, Macquarie and its partners are supporting the development of several other offshore wind projects.

Two companies committed to clean energy

Macquarie Group is playing an important role in accelerating the decarbonization of the UK economy by investing in established clean technologies such as wind and solar power, as well as newer areas of the energy transition such as hydrogen, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and battery storage. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Equitix is a responsible investor, developer and infrastructure manager that has been investing directly in clean energy for over a decade. The company has invested more than £2.1 billion in renewable energy and carbon reduction projects across Europe and the UK, through 155 assets with a combined capacity of more than 4.4 GW.
