Plug Power’s Rochester gigafactory to be ramped up to 100 MW per month by Q2 2023

This milestone set a new industry record for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. In addition, the company also shipped nearly 1,000 batteries for specialty applications totaling 5.7 MW, ranging from a few hundred watts to 150 kW. Plug Power is on track to accelerate its 2.5 GW gigafactory in Rochester, NY to 100 MW per month by the middle of the second quarter of 2023, with plans to increase production further in the third quarter of 2023.

As part of Plug Power ‘s efforts to establish world-class manufacturing and supply chain capabilities, the company is aggressively pursuing all aspects of the green hydrogen economy. Electrolyzers are essential to Plug’s green hydrogen ecosystem, with PEM cells enabling the electrolysis of water using renewable electricity to split the water into green hydrogen and oxygen. The company offers an easy-to-deploy containerized electrolyzer solution with short lead times to enable decarbonization in several applications, including hard-to-shoot industries.

Plug Power electrolyzers are deployed worldwide with companies such as New Fortress Energy, Uniper and Irving Oil. The company’s electrolyzers have been installed at the green hydrogen plant in Georgia and will be deployed at plants under development in New York, Tennessee, Texas, California and Belgium. By 2025, Plug plans to produce 500 tons per day of green liquid hydrogen in the United States, equivalent to 4.3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. By 2028, Plug plans to produce 1,000 tons per day of green liquid hydrogen.

Plug Power builds a complete green hydrogen ecosystem to decarbonize the economy

Plug Power is building an end-to-end green hydrogen ecosystem, from production, storage and delivery to energy generation, to help its customers achieve their business goals and decarbonize the economy. The company has deployed more than 60,000 fuel cell systems and more than 200 refueling stations, making it the largest purchaser of liquid hydrogen. With plans to build and operate a green hydrogen highway across North America and Europe, Plug is building a state-of-the-art gigafactory to produce electrolyzers and fuel cells and multiple green hydrogen production plants that will produce 500 tons of liquid green hydrogen per day by 2025.

Plug Power’s progress in the green hydrogen space has been impressive, with large-scale manufacturing capabilities at state-of-the-art facilities in Rochester and Albany that have helped meet the growing demand for electrolyzers. The company’s commitment to decarbonizing the economy through its green hydrogen ecosystem is evident in its efforts to establish world-class manufacturing and supply chain capabilities. As Plug Power continues to pursue all aspects of the green hydrogen economy, it is clear that the company will continue to lead the development and deployment of green hydrogen solutions.
