Total Eren is planning a 100 MWac photovoltaic plant in the Dominican market in partnership with JMMB and Grupo Pais.

A strategic partnership

Total Eren, and Visolar Holding announce to work together for a project called Villarpando. It is a 100 MWac photovoltaic plant located in the province of Azua, Dominican Republic. The partners want to develop, finance, build and operate Villarpando together.

This decision follows the signature in March 2022 of a shareholders’ agreement. Thus, this pact stipulates a participation of 51% of Total Eren and 49% of Visolar in the project. After six months of effort, the partners begin construction of the Villarpando project.

The potential of the project

The total investment for Villarpando is approximately $120 million. This is one of the largest foreign investments in a solar project in the Caribbean region. The Villarpando project will produce approximately 200GWh per year of renewable energy.

The plant will be able to supply approximately 135,000 Dominicans. The project in partnership with Total Eren will save 125,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. In addition, Villarpando will generate nearly 250 jobs during the construction of the park and 60 direct permanent jobs.

Establishment in the Dominican Republic

Total Eren has opened a first office in Santo Domingo. Through its subsidiary Total Eren Dominicana, the group will continue to advance in the Villarpando project. It will also develop Total Eren’s activities in the Dominican Republic.

Since October 2021, a 15-year sales contract exists with Edesur Dominicana. It is one of the local public power distribution companies. The company will buy the electricity produced by the photovoltaic park.
