French designer and manufacturer of hydrogen refuelling stations HRS has received a letter of intent from Element 2, a British company specialising in hydrogen refuelling, to supply a mobile station in Glasgow. This announcement marks a new stage in the collaboration between the two companies, following an initial order placed for Teesside Airport in September 2024.

A project within an ambitious expansion plan

Element 2 aims to deploy 50 hydrogen refuelling stations over five years through its “50 in 5” programme, to support the growing demand for hydrogen mobility in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The infrastructure targets both operators of commercial fleets, such as buses, heavy goods vehicles and light commercial vehicles, as well as individuals and companies seeking to adopt zero-emission vehicles. Element 2 relies on an asset-light development model, enabling rapid deployment and operation of stations in collaboration with specialised industrial partners.

The new HRS station, model HRS14, will have a capacity of 14 kg per hour and is designed to be mobile, removable and transportable. This technical flexibility allows installation and commissioning on new sites within ten days, thus meeting the sector’s needs for agility and the rapidly evolving demand for alternative mobility. This order would represent the fourth hydrogen station deployed by HRS in the United Kingdom.

A deployment strategy serving the hydrogen economy

Scotland has set high ambitions in the hydrogen sector, targeting carbon neutrality by 2045. The country is building on its abundant renewable resources and supportive public policy. Element 2, in collaboration with HRS, is contributing to the development of this sector through the implementation of innovative stations, supporting the territorial network and the energy transition in transport.

The range of services and solutions provided by HRS is intended to optimise the operational efficiency of refuelling infrastructures. The previous Element 2 installation during the COP 2021 conference in Glasgow, notably for bus fleets, already demonstrated the company’s ability to respond to urgent and diverse needs in the British market. The deployment of a mobile station in Glasgow strengthens this momentum and expands the existing operational network.

Structuring partnerships for the sector

HRS positions itself as a key industrial partner to Element 2 in its strategy of international growth and diversification. The French company thus continues to expand its activities in the British market, while consolidating its presence in Europe through modular and adaptable solutions.

The management of Element 2 notes that this order represents an opportunity to strengthen the hydrogen mobility offering in Scotland, as well as across the Celtic region. The two companies are continuing to develop their partnership in a context of intensifying competition and accelerating investment in the hydrogen refuelling infrastructure segment.
