Voltalia announces the full commissioning of SSM1&2, its largest solar power plant. Located in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, it has a capacity of 320 megawatts. To pursue its development, Voltalia has sold part of its renewable energy assets.

A great success for Voltalia

Voltalia, an international player in renewable energies, appears to be growing rapidly. In fact, in the second quarter of 2022, its turnover was up by 26% to 111 million euros. Since then, the commissioning of its largest solar project confirms its success, as its CEO Sébastien Clerc points out:

The commissioning of SSM1-2 is a great success. I would like to warmly thank all the Voltalia teams, as well as the suppliers and subcontractors, who worked together on this 320 megawatt photovoltaic project. Their work continues with the adjacent 260-megawatt SSM3-6 project, which began in March 2022.”

Thus, the construction of the solar power plant is finishing its final tests with its last works. Launched in 2021, commissioning has been gradual, with the gradual installation of solar panels and infrastructure.

A tenfold project

Launched in 2021 by Voltalia, the size of the plant has been increased tenfold thanks to new electricity sales contracts and the sale of part of the RE assets. Initially with a capacity of 32 megawatts, new long-term sales contracts signed with Braskem or Copel have enabled it to raise its ambitions.

In addition, Voltalia has sold part of its renewable energy assets while retaining a majority stake. In detail, the developer sold 30% of the plant’s assets to the SMOA investment fund in March 2022 and 33% to the STOA investment fund recently.
