LGE India, the Indian subsidiary of LG Electronics, has signed two long-term solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL) and Sunsure Energy, for a combined capacity of 20.80 MWp. These contracts will supply renewable electricity to the company's manufacturing facilities in Pune and Greater Noida. These agreements mark LGE India's first captive renewable energy project in India and its first strategic equity investment in a local special purpose vehicle (SPV) for power generation.
Two Solar Plants in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh
HREPL will supply electricity from its 27.7 MWp solar plant in Nanded, Maharashtra, under a 9.80 MWp PPA. The agreement will cover 40% of the Pune facility's energy needs and is expected to offset 0.31 million metric tonnes of CO2e over the project lifetime, according to the company. The second agreement, with Sunsure Energy, will enable LGE India to raise the total renewable energy share at its Greater Noida plant to approximately 50%.
Sunsure Energy will supply the Greater Noida facility from its 82.5 MWp solar plant in Erach, Uttar Pradesh, under an 11 MWp PPA. This supply will cover approximately 30% of the site's energy requirements. The expected carbon offset would reach 0.30 million metric tonnes of CO2e over the project lifetime, according to company estimates.
32.1 Million kWh Annually and a 25-Year Commitment
Combined, the two agreements will allow LGE India to procure approximately 32.1 million kWh of renewable electricity annually across both sites, equivalent to powering up to 50,000 Indian households per year, according to the company. The total carbon offset over the project lifetimes is expected to reach 0.61 million metric tonnes of CO2e.
Both agreements have a duration of 25 years and will take effect in the second quarter of 2026. These contracts also represent LGE India's first strategic equity investment in an Indian SPV for power generation.
Alignment with RE100 and India's Carbon Neutrality Goals
Hong Ju Jeon, Managing Director and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of LGE India, stated that these agreements align with LG's global strategy to achieve 100% renewable energy under the RE100 initiative. He also referenced India's carbon neutrality target for 2070. Deepak Thakur, MD and CEO of HREPL, highlighted his company's commitment to delivering reliable green energy solutions to industrial clients in their transition toward carbon neutrality.
Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Sunsure Energy, described the collaboration as the beginning of a long-term relationship with LG Electronics in India, underlining his company's ambition to advance industrial decarbonisation across sectors and geographies.
