Valorem has inaugurated the ViIatti wind complex, located in the Ostrobothnia region of Finland. This project, presented as the largest ever developed by the company, brings together two separate farms: Kalistanneva and Matkussaari. Together, they amount to an installed capacity of 313 MW, representing an annual production of around 1 TWh, equivalent to the consumption of 120,000 Finnish households.
Two farms, a consortium and shared management
The Kalistanneva farm includes 30 turbines with a capacity of 165 MW. Developed by Valorem, it was sold in 2022 to a 100% Finnish consortium composed of Helen, the electricity provider of the city of Helsinki, and the Wind Power Fund of Ålandsbanken. Matkussaari, on the other hand, remains fully owned by Valorem with 27 turbines totalling 148.5 MW. The two sites share an electrical infrastructure built by Valrea, Valorem’s subsidiary, comprising a 40 km high-voltage line and a common substation operated over 35 years under a joint company.
Financing and international expansion
For the financing of the Matkussaari farm, Valorem secured in 2022 a long-term loan of €135mn ($145mn) from AIP Management, as well as a VAT facility of €10mn ($10.8mn) from OP Bank. This operation marked the beginning of a deeper collaboration between Valorem and AIP, which entered the group’s capital in early 2025. ViIatti also represents the first international achievement of Valrea, which carried out the construction of both farms, including 57 Nordex N163 turbines and 5 transformers of 90 MVA.
Strengthened presence in Finland
Valorem has been active in Finland since 2014 and in 2020 founded its subsidiary Valorem Energies Finland Oy, based in Helsinki. This entity currently employs more than 25 local staff and manages a portfolio of 1.1 GW of wind projects and 2 GWc of solar photovoltaic projects. For site operations, the subsidiary VALEMO has opened a maintenance base in Oulu, with two technicians dedicated to the farms’ supervision.
At the inauguration, Finnish Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie attended alongside local officials and 1,200 participants, underlining the institutional and regional significance of the project.
