Casa Valdes solar farm gets bifacial panels

For the project, RWE is installing 97,740 high-performance bifacial modules on an area of approximately 97 hectares. The bifacial cells are integrated into a double glass module, which can absorb solar radiation from both sides. This double absorption allows an increase in productivity.

The group is also using this innovative technology for its solar installations under construction in Puerta Del Sol, and Las Vaguadas. The first site is near Casa Valdes, the second is in the province of Badajoz. A total of 54 MWac are under construction on these two projects.

Katja Wünschel, CEO Onshore Wind at RWE states:

With the commissioning of Casa Valdes, RWE will contribute to achieving the Spanish climate targets. Innovative technologies such as the one used at the site help us to take better advantage of solar energy. I look forward to seeing our construction projects completed. Spain is one of our main markets this year.

RWE Iberia participates in the Spanish transition

Spain is an ideal location to develop wind and solar installations. It benefits from its geographical location, its attractive outdoor conditions, and its ambitious climate objectives. RWE, the world’s leading renewable energy company, has many years of construction and operating experience in the country.

In fact, taking into account the RWE Casa Valdes solar project, RWE Iberia operates more than 450 MW of onshore wind capacity and more than 90 MWac of solar capacity in the country. In addition, the group is developing the Orkoien onshore wind project to test innovative technologies and promote the transition.

The year 2022 was a milestone year in the history of the group with more than 5 billion invested in renewable energies. In addition, RWE is preparing wind and solar projects in the existing development pipeline to participate in the Concurso de Capacidad. In fact, this call for tenders from the Spanish government for access to electricity network capacity represents a future opportunity for the group.
