Rolls-Royce SMR and Equilibrion have announced a collaboration agreement to explore the large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from nuclear energy. The partnership aims to integrate Equilibrion's proprietary Eq.flight system with Rolls-Royce's 470 MWe small pressurised water reactor. According to the two companies, this technology combination could produce over 160 million litres of SAF per year per reactor, meeting around one-third of the UK's 2040 power-to-liquids (PtL) target.
