Recurrent Energy secures approval for 1.3 GW solar and battery project in the UK

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian group Canadian Solar Inc., has received a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Tillbridge energy project in Lincolnshire, England. The approval, granted by the Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, allows the development of an infrastructure combining 800 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity and 500 MW / 1,000 MWh of battery storage.

An industrial-scale hybrid infrastructure

The Tillbridge project will be located several kilometres east of Gainsborough. It is led as a joint venture by Recurrent Energy and Tribus Clean Energy, two active developers in the UK energy sector. The project will become one of the largest hybrid solar and storage facilities in the United Kingdom.

The solar unit is expected to generate around 857.6 GWh annually, enough to power nearly 300,000 homes. The construction phase is projected to create approximately 1,250 jobs. The battery system will optimise power injection into the national grid and meet short-term flexibility needs.

A key project in Recurrent’s expansion strategy

Tillbridge is part of Recurrent Energy’s roadmap to strengthen its position in European markets. This authorisation marks a milestone in the development of large-scale integrated energy infrastructures. The combination of solar generation and storage enables the company to offer solutions aligned with the expectations of grid operators and energy authorities.

Ismael Guerrero, Chief Executive Officer of Recurrent Energy, stated that the project represented “an important milestone” in the company’s strategy, highlighting its commitment to developing large-scale projects “in the UK and globally”.
