Plug Power Inc., a provider of integrated hydrogen solutions, announced that its production site in Woodbine, Georgia, reached an output of 300 tonnes of liquid hydrogen during April. This volume marks a new monthly record for the facility and a significant milestone in the industrialisation of the sector in the United States, according to a statement released on May 29.
Ramp-up of the Woodbine facility
The plant, which came online in January 2024, uses the internally developed GenEco proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser technology. Designed to produce up to 15 tonnes per day, the facility is operating at full capacity and demonstrates the industrial viability of Plug Power’s integrated hydrogen value chain.
This site is part of a broader production network that also includes operating facilities in Tennessee and Louisiana. In total, Plug Power claims a combined production capacity of 40 tonnes per day, making it the largest producer of liquid hydrogen in the country.
Reinforcing internal capabilities
The performance of the Georgia site highlights the operational effectiveness of the company’s vertical model, which involves designing and operating its own electrolysis systems. According to Jose Luis Crespo, Chief Revenue Officer at Plug Power, this strategy “enhances customer value, supports margins, and contributes to long-term commercial growth.”
The hydrogen produced is delivered to major distribution and logistics clients, including Walmart, Amazon, and Home Depot. These deliveries allow Plug Power to meet steady demand for alternative fuels while consolidating its revenue in expanding industrial markets.
