Power Capital Renewable Energy selects Voltalia to build and operate 230-megawatt solar power plants. Based in Ireland, Power Capital is an independent electricity producer. The producer has chosen Voltalia, a specialist in renewable energies, to build, operate and maintain four photovoltaic projects in the south-east of the Republic of Ireland. These projects have a total capacity of 230 megawatts.

Four projects under construction

“We are delighted to announce this latest construction and maintenance contract in Ireland, our largest to date. This is our third contract on the island, having already completed the construction and maintenance of four other projects for other customers. Our leading position will enable us to serve Power Capital well, as well as our other current and future customers in this market,” said Voltalia CEO Sébastien Clerc.

The Lysaghtstown project in County Cork will have a capacity of 131 megawatts. The Tullabeg plant in County Wexford will have a capacity of 83.9 megawatts, while the Painestown (Meath) and Beaulieu (Louth) plants will have capacities of 9.3 and 6.6 megawatts respectively. All projects are currently under construction.

Electricity sales under long-term contracts

Once completed in 2023 for the smaller sites and 2024 for the larger ones, the photovoltaic power plants will sell their electricity via long-term contracts in the technology sector. Voltalia designs and builds projects. After completion, Voltalia will operate and maintain the facilities on behalf of Power Capital for a period of 15 years.

“It’s great to see the progress of the construction of this part of our solar farm portfolio in Ireland. We look forward to working with the Voltalia team in the years to come. This portfolio of projects will make a significant contribution to Ireland’s energy transition and represents an important milestone for both companies,” said Justin Brown-Peter Duff, co-CEO of Power Capital.

Local job creation

Power Capital Renewable Energy, Voltalia and their subcontractors will employ up to 400 people on site. These local teams are supported by Voltalia’s offices in Portugal. Voltalia has set up a Global Solar Hub to support its customers around the world. Voltalia’s team of experts numbers over 200. These experts work in the fields of photovoltaic engineering, procurement, construction, production management, maintenance and distribution.

PCR Energy and renewable energy in Ireland

Power Capital Renewable Energy, an independent power producer in Ireland since 2011, has developed a 5 GW portfolio in Ireland. The company has expanded internationally, acquiring a 5 GW development platform in the United States. Based in Dublin, the Power Capital team works in the fields of engineering, finance, law, environmental planning and construction. Power Capital is currently building more than 230 MW of solar power plants in Wexford, Cork, Meath and Louth, with power purchase agreements with companies. During the RESS-2 auction, the company also won over 300 MW of solar projects. Construction of these projects will start later in 2023.
