Nu E Power Corp. recently announced the commencement of commercial operations at its Lethbridge One solar farm, a 8.75 MWac project located in southern Alberta. This project marks an important milestone for the company, which holds a 25% stake in the site, as part of a partnership with Low Carbon Canada Solar Limited. The facility is designed to produce 15,841 MWh (gross) annually and is expected to generate 8,237 tons of carbon offsets during the same period, based on photovoltaic estimates for the region and the MWh-to-carbon-ton conversion factor of 0.52 tons per MWh.
A Collaboration with Low Carbon Canada Solar Limited
This project is the first under the agreement with Low Carbon Canada Solar Limited, a partnership within a development portfolio of approximately 457 MWac of solar projects in southern Alberta. Of these, 157 MWac have already received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission for construction.
Local Construction and Project Sustainability
The solar farm was built using significant local content, including a Canadian-designed racking system, locally fabricated screw piles, and local contractors for roadways, fencing, O&M building, and electrical systems. Additionally, the project achieved a 50% Indigenous labor content for general assembly, with zero lost time incidents over 38,000 direct man-hours during construction. The project was completed on schedule and within the $19 million budget.
