Lightsource bp has obtained environmental approval for 19 solar photovoltaic projects in Spain. These projects will be located in the provinces of Zaragoza, Seville, Cordoba, Toledo and Valladolid and will develop a total of 1,620 MW. This initiative will involve an investment of 1.2 billion euros and the creation of more than 5,000 jobs during the construction phase as well as approximately 90 jobs for the subsequent operation of the plants.

A long-term commitment to energy security

This is a very important step for the company, as it demonstrates its long-term commitment to the decarbonization of the Spanish economy and national energy security. Furthermore, Lightsource bp will continue to consolidate its position in the Spanish market as a leading solar developer with a professional team that already exceeds 140 people in Spain.

Fernando Roger, Development Director for Southern Europe at Lightsource bp, expressed his satisfaction saying, “We are very pleased to have obtained environmental clearance for these projects, an important milestone that demonstrates the company’s leadership position in Spain and the dedication of our team. Our ambition and commitment are clear: Spain is a key market in our global growth strategy.

Contributing to the decarbonization of the economy

Lightsource bp will leverage its development capabilities and partnerships to bring this 1,620 MW of solar power online by 2025 and continue to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy. By working with potential electricity buyers through long-term renewable energy purchase agreements, the company aims to meet European renewable energy supply targets.

With operations in 19 markets around the world, Lightsource bp is well positioned to develop strategic partnerships with energy buyers to deliver globally. Fernando Roger added, “Achieving results like these demonstrates our experience in developing quality assets and how we can contribute to Spain’s decarbonization, representing an opportunity for utilities and corporate customers who wish to acquire renewable energy through PPA contracts and other structures.”

In conclusion, this Lightsource bp initiative is an important step for Spain in its transition to a greener and more sustainable economy. It also represents an opportunity for the company to continue to play a leading role in the development of solar energy projects worldwide.
