The solar energy market in Texas is expanding with the commissioning of Delilah I Solar Energy Center, a 300 MW project developed by Invenergy. Located in Lamar and Red River counties, this solar park is majority-owned by WEC Energy Group and contributes to the state’s growing electricity production capacity.

A project backed by energy supply agreements

Delilah I Solar’s production capacity is allocated between two major players in the automotive industry: Honda Motor Co., LTD (200 MW) and Tesla (100 MW). These companies have secured power purchase agreements through virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs), ensuring the direct injection of this production into the local grid.

Energy and economic impact

This project highlights Invenergy’s strategy to develop large-scale infrastructure in the United States. According to Bristi Cure, Senior Vice President of Renewable Development at Invenergy, collaboration with industrial partners and local communities was crucial to bringing Delilah I Solar online. She also emphasized the economic impact of this initiative, particularly in terms of job creation and energy diversification.

A strategic lever for the industry

Honda Motor Co., LTD is reinforcing its commitment to fully decarbonized electricity sourcing in North America. The company sees this partnership as an opportunity to optimize its industrial operations in the United States while contributing to increased electricity production capacity available on the market.
