Dalkia, a subsidiary of the EDF group, has partnered with the Communauté d’Agglomération Paris – Vallée de la Marne (CAPVM) to modernise and expand the GEOVAL district heating network in Lognes and Torcy, in the Seine-et-Marne department. The project represents an investment of EUR18mn ($18.94mn), aimed at strengthening local geothermal production and securing energy supply for new users.
Reinforced and more efficient infrastructure
The works will increase the output of the existing geothermal plant by more than 50% with the addition of high-performance heat pumps. The energy supplied will be 90% decarbonised, according to data provided by the project operators. The upgraded network will deliver around 20 GWh of heat annually while reducing exposure to gas price volatility.
Network extension to 40 new buildings
The 7-kilometre extension of the existing network will connect 40 new subscribers, including social housing, public facilities, and administrative buildings. These new connections aim to stabilise energy costs for users while increasing the share of locally produced energy.
Public funding of EUR3.7mn
The project is supported by EUR3.7mn ($3.89mn) in public funding from the Agence de la transition écologique (ADEME) Île-de-France and the Île-de-France Region. This support confirms regional authorities’ intention to develop low-carbon local energy infrastructure.
Joint management between public and private stakeholders
The project’s inauguration was attended by local elected officials, the prefect of Seine-et-Marne, and regional representatives. The network will be operated by Dalkia, which manages the technical aspects of the infrastructure, while CAPVM oversees the project’s strategic direction.
