Danish renewable energy service provider FairWind has announced the acquisition of Cosmic Group, an Australian specialist in wind turbine installation and maintenance. The transaction will enable FairWind to strengthen its regional presence while gaining access to new markets such as New Zealand and Japan.
Regional integration and scaling up
Headquartered in Brisbane, Cosmic Group has around 100 qualified technicians who will join FairWind’s workforce. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter, pending regulatory approvals. Eventually, the Australian entity will become the regional hub for FairWind’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) operations. One of Cosmic Group’s co-founders, Matt Crossan, has been appointed as regional director as part of the integration.
FairWind stated that the Cosmic brand would continue to operate under its existing name to ensure continuity for ongoing projects and existing client relationships. This strategy aims to maintain operational stability while transferring FairWind’s global systems and standards to the local level.
Operational synergies and regional ambitions
FairWind plans to capitalise on Cosmic’s local experience to enhance its technical capabilities in both onshore and offshore wind markets. FairWind Chief Executive Officer Stewart Mitchell said the collaboration marked “an important step in our growth strategy,” noting the synergies between the two entities and their shared commitment to safety and quality performance.
The merger will also allow FairWind to support international clients expanding in the Asia-Pacific region, a rapidly evolving market where installed capacity continues to increase. The company expects the expansion to boost its operations in installation, maintenance and technical services for next-generation wind farms.
Matt Crossan stated that the introduction of new turbine models in the region presented “strong development potential,” and highlighted that the partnership with FairWind positioned Cosmic for “the next phase of growth.”
