German group EnviTec Biogas has launched the commissioning of its 40th EnviThan biomethane upgrading facility in France, located in Premierfait in the Aube region. The project was developed with Biogaz des Vieilles Vignes and relies on a daily input of 100 tonnes of agricultural residues. The unit, with a capacity of 400 Nm³/h, injects biomethane into the network operated by NaTran. Construction was completed in 12 months and the first injection took place in July.
A facility driven by local farmers
Three local farmers operate the site and ensure its feedstock supply. For this unit, EnviTec Biogas France independently designed the complete electrical and automation system, a first for its subsidiary. The facility’s design includes a high-pressure compression system that allows the biomethane output to be adjusted to the network pressure, set here at 70 bars.
An accelerated deployment in France
EnviTec Biogas, which operates 87 of its own units in Germany, is expanding its activities beyond biogas production. The company also markets liquefied biomethane (Bio-LNG) for transport and liquid carbon dioxide (LCO2) for the food industry. Present in 18 countries, it recorded revenue of €337.7mn ($364.5mn) in 2024 with a pre-tax profit of €44mn ($47.5mn). In France, its activities are managed from Plédran in Brittany, with an additional service site in Le Meux, Oise.
A new unit planned in Montans
In parallel, EnviTec plans to launch a new project in Montans, near Toulouse, for recycling company Cler Verts. This will be their second cooperation after a first 637 kW facility commissioned in 2016. The upcoming unit will be dedicated to processing biowaste, with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
The company notes that most of its projects in France are based on agricultural and food waste. According to EnviTec Biogas France Managing Director Mehdy Benyahia, the proximity of several existing reference sites in the Aube region influenced the clients’ decision to work with the company.
