Encavis AG, a Hamburg-based operator of wind and solar parks, continues its expansion in the Italian market with the acquisition of two ready-to-build solar projects located in Cobu and Massarenti in the Emilia-Romagna region. These projects will offer a combined capacity of 18.4 megawatts (MW) and are expected to produce 28 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of green electricity annually, contributing to Europe’s energy transition goals.

Strategic projects for Italy

Developed by Hive Energy Limited (United Kingdom) and Sunleonard Energy Limited, the solar parks will be constructed by Ethical Power Italia S.r.l., a subsidiary of Hive Energy. The photovoltaic modules, mounted on single-axis trackers, will optimize renewable energy production. The commissioning of the installations is scheduled for the end of 2025.

According to Mario Schirru, Chief Investment and Operations Officer of Encavis AG, this acquisition is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the group’s presence in Italy. “These projects extend our portfolio while providing opportunities for long-term partnerships with industrial clients through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).”

A successful collaboration with Hive Energy

Encavis AG and Hive Energy share a long-standing history of collaboration, particularly in Spain, with projects such as Fundici (55 MW, commissioned in 2022) and La Florida (30 MW, expected in 2024). This transaction in Italy marks a new chapter in their partnership, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable energy solutions in Europe.

For Giles Redpath, CEO of Hive Energy Group, this deal demonstrates the strength of the relationship between the two companies: “We are delighted to grow our cooperation with Encavis by expanding our activities into Italy. This project paves the way for new opportunities in the region.”

Local impact in Emilia-Romagna

Stefano Salerno, Managing Director of Sunleonard and head of Hive Energy’s operations in Italy, highlighted the importance of these projects for his home region of Emilia-Romagna. “These parks represent a new era for solar energy in the region. They showcase our commitment to sustainable development and local innovation.”

Encavis plans to conclude long-term PPA agreements for these installations, ensuring economic and environmental stability while addressing the growing energy needs of industrial clients.
