Governor Jay Inslee ofWashington State has signed a site certification agreement for two new solar energy projects in Yakima County, which will significantly enhance the state’s clean energy production.
The High Top and Ostrea projects, developed by leading solar developer Cypress Creek Renewables, will produce enough clean energy to power about 30,000 homes and will be located in an area of the electric grid that has difficulty importing electricity.
Cypress Creek Renewables Committed to Improving Washington State’s Energy Infrastructure
The High Top project will also be the first solar energy storage project to provide power to the Yakima Load Pocket, which is a crucial step toward improving the state’s energy infrastructure. “We are very proud today to reach this exciting milestone not only for these two projects, but also for the commitment Cypress Creek has made to Washington State,” said Sarah Slusser, CEO of Cypress Creek Renewables. “Our team has taken a thoughtful and impactful approach to the location of these projects and we look forward to continuing to be a good neighbor in Yakima County.”
The Energy Facilities Evaluation Council (EFSEC) process recommended the projects to the Governor, and was encouraged by Cypress Creek’s approach to mitigating potential environmental impacts raised by stakeholders. The projects were also supported by the environmentally oriented consulting firm TRC.
Construction is expected to begin on the projects in early 2024, which is a significant milestone for Washington State’s clean energy goals.
