Cambois, near Blyth, UK, will be home to a JDR Cable Systems submarine cable manufacturing facility.
A local project
In Cambois, Northumberland County, JDR begins construction of its 69,000 square meter plant. The £130 million project will provide submarine cable manufacturing technology. In addition, the site will be operational by 2024.
The project is supported by the UK government. The Cambois plant is part of the BEIS offshore wind turbine manufacturing investment support program. In addition, the site will provide 171 local jobs for the construction phase of the project.
A strategic location
Once completed, the Cambois facility will include a new continuous catenary curing line (CCV). This will make the site a unique facility in the UK. The plant will manufacture, from start to finish, high voltage submarine cables for offshore wind farms.
Tomasz Nowak, CEO of JDR, states:
“We are thrilled to begin construction, it took a lot of hard work from everyone involved to finally get the shovel in the ground today! This is also an important moment for the North East, as projects like ours will create more jobs and local opportunities for the people of Cambois, Bedlington and the surrounding areas. The region and the east coast of the UK are planning to connect an incredible amount of energy infrastructure in the coming years, and we’re proud to be contributing to that in the midst of a growing offshore energy sector.”
The company indicates that this is the first phase of development in Cambois. Thus, the company aims to participate in the energy supply of the region and the country.
