Arevon inaugurates the Saticoy battery energy storage system in Ventura County, California.
This project propels the municipality of Oxnard into the renewable energy revolution.
Among other things, the zero-emission power plant contributes to grid stability and local employment.
Arevon inaugurates its 100 MW/400 MWh storage system
Arevon, a leading renewable energy company, announces the opening of the Saticoy battery energy storage system, one of the largest in the USA.
The plant ensures the stability of the local power grid and offers numerous environmental benefits.
The electricity is then supplied to Southern California Edison (SCE) under a 20-year purchase and sale contract.
Ensuring network reliability
In addition, the 100 MW/400 MWh plant includes 142 Megapacks, Tesla‘s large-scale battery storage device.
Megapacks, which charge from the grid, store energy during off-peak hours and can be discharged to rebalance the power grid.
This enables the power plant to supply energy during peak demand, while significantly improving grid stability and reliability.
Energy stored on site can power Oxnard for four hours or all of Ventura County for thirty minutes.
$11 million over 35 years
The project, initially designed and developed by Strata Clean Energy, comes after residents and community leaders turned down a proposed state-of-the-art gas-fired power plant.
What’s more, the plant produces zero carbon emissions.
Finally, the project has already generated nearly $2.5 million in new sales taxes.
It is estimated that it will generate over $11 million in property taxes for Ventura County over 35 years.
In addition, a working agreement has been signed with local authorities to support local job growth.
