Alpiq has decided to sell its seven rooftop photovoltaic installations in Switzerland, with a total capacity of 5.5 MWp, to PS Panneaux Solaires SA. This transaction is in line with Alpiq’s strategy of focusing on its core activities, in particular the integration of renewable energies and energy flexibility solutions. In particular, it has facilities in Spain. The facilities, located in the cantons of Fribourg, Solothurn and Vaud, will continue to produce 5.6 GWh of renewable energy per year under the management of PS Panneaux Solaires SA. By divesting these assets, Alpiq is strengthening its ability to focus on energy projects that offer greater flexibility and better meet security of supply requirements. The sale to PS Panneaux Solaires SA, operator of the Gefiswiss Energy Transition Fund, guarantees the continuity of solar production while aligning Alpiq’s operations with its core strategy.

Capacity Increase and Flexibility Challenge

Photovoltaic capacity in Switzerland has grown considerably, rising by almost 40% by 2023 to around 1,500 MW. This rapid growth poses challenges in terms of integration into the energy system, due to the intermittent nature of solar production. With its portfolio of flexible, mainly hydroelectric power stations, Alpiq is well positioned to meet these challenges. Amédée Murisier, Head of the Switzerland Division at Alpiq, emphasizes that “our portfolio of highly flexible power stations makes a significant contribution to the flexibility of the energy system.”

Winter Projects and Safety Enhancement

Alpiq is carrying out several projects to increase electricity production in winter. This includes projects for Alpine photovoltaic power plants and new wind farms. These initiatives are designed to enhance security of energy supply in winter and optimize the use of available resources. These projects include six Alpine photovoltaic power plants, five from the hydroelectricity round table and three new wind power projects. The focus on these initiatives demonstrates Alpiq’s determination to invest in sustainable energy solutions and to remain a key player in the development of the Swiss energy market.
