In Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, BEEAH Group, Chinook Sciences and Air Water announce a protocol to create a consortium.

The creation of a consortium

In Sharjah, the three companies agree on this first step. The objective is to advance the dossier of a waste-to-hydrogen plant. The hydrogen will be of fuel cell quality from waste wood and plastic.

This project will combine BEEAH’s waste management and materials recovery expertise. It will also build on Chinook Sciences’ RODECS pyrolysis and gasification patent. Finally, it will use Air Water’s hydrogen refining technology.

The Sharjah plant includes an on-site renewable hydrogen distribution station to fuel vehicles. The plant is expected to produce fuel cell grade hydrogen. Indeed, the synthesis gas resulting from the pyrolysis and gasification process will integrate the hydrogen refining system.

An international future

Following COP26 in Glasgow, the United Arab Emirates announces the Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. They also aim to become a leader in the field of hydrogen. Thus, the Sharjah plant will potentially annihilate thousands of tons of CO2 each year.

Khaled Al Huraimel, CEO of BEEAH Group, states:

“For BEEAH, the waste-to-hydrogen plant is an innovation that will allow us to eliminate the challenge of certain types of wood and plastic waste, while also producing fuel cell-grade hydrogen that is a solution for the emission-free mobility of the future. The project aligns with the UAE’s Hydrogen Leadership Roadmap and demonstrates a feasible, scalable and sustainable approach to renewable hydrogen production. To achieve this type of innovation, we partnered with Chinook Sciences to bridge the gap between waste treatment and pyrolysis. By partnering with Air Water on this project, we are bringing advanced hydrogen refining technology from Japan. Together, we will innovate in the production of fuel cell-grade renewable hydrogen for the region as well as globally.”

The Air Water process can be applied to various types of syngas produced from different feedstocks. The Waste to Hydrogen plant in Sharjah was first announced in May 2021.

The project will add to the BEEAH Group’s diverse portfolio of zero waste and zero emission solutions. By 2030, the global market for renewable hydrogen production is expected to reach $1 trillion. The United Arab Emirates is targeting 25% of the global renewable hydrogen market.
