Taaleri SolarWind III is the new “dark green” fund of the Finnish company Taaleri Energia. This is the highest sustainability category in the EU Sustainable Financial Reporting Regulation.

Sustainable investments

The investments of the Taaleri Energia SolarWind III Fund will follow a specific strategy. It will acquire, develop, contract, build and operate a portfolio of onshore wind farms. The fund will also fund a portfolio of solar photovoltaic farms and battery storage assets.

The target markets will be the Nordic and Baltic countries, Poland, Southeast Europe, the Iberian Peninsula and Texas. It is a fund that will bring together 25 to 35 projects. This is already the sixth renewable energy fund the company has invested in.

To date, the fund already has 17 seed projects representing 3GW of electricity generation capacity. The construction of the Taaleri Energia Fund requires €930 million of equity. To attract investors, it will be necessary to present them with significant co-investment opportunities.

A financial challenge

Stephen Ross, head of investor relations at Taaleri Energia, says:

“The Fund will offset millions of tons of CO2 emissions, reduce air pollution, improve grid infrastructure, create local jobs, generate local and state tax revenue, and increase energy security.”

With an estimated value of €44 million, this project is a real financial challenge. In addition, the Taaleri SolarWind III Fund will have positive impacts in the countries and local communities.

Over the past twelve years, the company has developed a strong lead in renewable energy. It was experiencing strong success with the launch of its SolarWind II Fund in 2019. No less than 11 investments were made in Croatia, Finland, Norway and Texas.

Kai Rintala, Managing Director of Taaleri Energia, states:

“The SolarWind III fund strategy builds on the success of the SolarWind II fund.”

Demand for renewable energy projects in the Taaleri SolarWind II Fund’s target markets has been increasing for several years. Securing development projects from the outset helps to consolidate the future value of the Taaleri SolarWind III fund.
