Qair, an independent producer of renewable energy, announces a partnership with Plug, a leading supplier of hydrogen solutions, for the sale of its hydrogen produced by water electrolysis. This production will take place via the Hyd’Occ unit, developed by Qair with Arec Occitanie, for which the foundation stone was laid on June 29, 2023. The contract will take effect on commissioning of the unit, scheduled for late 2024, for an initial term of 10 years, demonstrating the long-term commitment to green hydrogen.

Qair and Plug: together for a green hydrogen revolution

This partnership marks a key step in the deployment of the first 20 MW phase of Hyd’Occ, capable of producing 6,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen per year, with a total capacity of 50 MW. Hyd’Occ is committed to supplying Plug with a volume of compressed hydrogen to meet its customers’ demand and support their decarbonization projects.

Guirec Dufour, Managing Director of Qair France, is delighted with the partnership, saying that hydrogen is a promising alternative to fossil fuels, and that this is an opportunity to extend their reach and promote the adoption of hydrogen in various industrial and transport sectors.

For his part, Benjamin Haycraft, Executive Vice President EMEA at Plug, is delighted with the agreement, which will give the company access to green hydrogen in the Occitanie region, supporting their ecosystems.

Qair and Plug Power: a powerful alliance for the energy transition

Plug Power Inc. recently announced a major contract in Europe, securing an order for 100 MW of proton exchange membrane electrolyzers. These electrolyzers will produce 43 tonnes of green hydrogen per day to replace grey hydrogen in the oil refining process, avoiding the emission of 516 tonnes of CO2 per day.

Plug is playing a leading role in the advancement of green hydrogen projects in Europe, thanks to its cutting-edge PEM technology. The company operates a state-of-the-art gigafactory in Rochester, New York, producing electrolyzers and fuel cells, and is commissioning several green hydrogen production plants that will produce 500 tons of liquid green hydrogen per day by the end of 2025. Plug will deliver its green hydrogen solutions directly to customers and distribute them in a variety of industrial environments.

These key partnerships between Qair and Plug, together with Plug’s ambitious green hydrogen production projects in Europe, mark significant steps towards a cleaner, low-carbon economy. The use of green hydrogen as an alternative to fossil fuels in various industrial and transport sectors can make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and the transition to a sustainable energy future.
