Remixpoint has signed a partnership agreement with Nippon Chikudenchi to build and operate seven grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, marking the company’s entry into this segment. The projects will be developed by NC Pioneer LLC, a special purpose company established on December 1, equally owned by both partners.
Three of the seven facilities will be located in the Kyushu transmission system operator area, with commissioning dates scheduled for February, March, and August 2026. One site will be deployed in the Tohoku region in March 2026, another in Kansai in September, while the remaining two, situated in Chubu, are expected to be operational in October 2026.
Progressive deployment strategy across five regions
Under the partnership, Nippon Chikudenchi is responsible for development and construction, while Remixpoint will manage aggregation once the systems are operational. Remixpoint has injected JPY2bn ($13.56mn) into the NC Pioneer joint venture, with the aim of quickly entering the electricity balancing market to capitalise on high prices.
These projects align with Remixpoint’s broader infrastructure development strategy, already active in photovoltaic generation. The company also plans to convert its 969kWAC solar facility in Kumamoto Prefecture into a hybrid asset by adding a 2.5MWh battery system. The site will be transitioned to the feed-in-premium (FIP) tariff scheme, allowing for revenue diversification.
Stronger ambition under 2027–2029 growth plan
Under its management plan for 2027 to 2029, Remixpoint targets a portfolio consisting of five FIP power plants and twenty standalone BESS assets. The stated objective is to expand its presence in Japan’s grid-scale storage sector.
Established in July 2024, Nippon Chikudenchi specialises in the development of high-voltage BESS projects. It commissioned its first project – the 2MW/8MWh Kasugai Nishio Power Storage Station in Aichi Prefecture – in May 2025. The two companies intend to expand their joint pipeline in the future, building on this initial series of projects.
