Acciona and SSE Renewables announce that they are jointly exploringoffshore wind energy opportunities in Poland, as well as in Spain and Portugal.

Acciona and SSE Renewables formalize joint venture

The Polish government is proposing operating licenses for offshore wind farms, with the aim of developing new wind farms.
Acciona and SSE Renewables wish to participate in the process via a partnership.
Acciona and SSE Renewables aim to enter the Polish offshore wind market by creating a strong alliance.
They have already signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize a joint venture with 50% for Acciona and 50% for SSE Renewables.
The two partners were already planning to work together to explore opportunities in the Spanish and Portuguese offshore wind markets.
They have also signed memoranda of understanding to work together in these markets.

The two giants tackle the Polish market

Acciona already has a strong presence in the Polish renewable energies market.
The company owns and operates over 100 MW of onshore wind power assets.
It is also developing new projects.

“Poland is a promising country for the development of offshore wind power, in which Acciona has been established for over 15 years, with local teams and a good knowledge of the market,” says Rafael Mateo, CEO of Acciona.

SSE Renewable is currently managing the most offshore wind projects in the world.
These include the world’s largest offshore wind farm.
This is the 3.6 GW Dogger Bang Wind Farm in the North Sea.

Accelerating Poland’s energy transition

Poland has set itself precise energy transition targets.
Renewable energies should account for 23% of the national energy mix by 2030.
This target will rise to 28.5% by 2040.
The development of offshore wind power is central to Poland’s strategy.
The country aims to develop 5.9 MW of offshore wind power by 2030.
The bar is set at 11 GW of installed assets by 2040.
Against this backdrop, Poland is offering operating licenses for offshore wind power.
The aim is to rapidly develop this energy source.
By investing in this market, Acciona and SSE Renewables will contribute to Poland’s energy transition.
