Nordex Group has announced the launch of the N169/5.X turbine, a new variant of the Delta4000 platform, specifically designed for the US market. The N169/5.X turbine has a rotor diameter of 169 metres and a rated power of up to 5.5 megawatts. It is particularly well-suited to areas of the United States characterized by low to moderate wind speeds and limited turbulence.

Features and benefits

Nordex Group ‘s N169/5.X includes a range of towers optimized for the US market, enabling a significant increase in energy production. This turbine is designed to maximize energy efficiency, particularly in projects where grid capacity is limited. Manav Sharma, CEO of the North American division, points out that this new turbine will enable us to better meet customers’ needs in grid-constrained locations, complementing existing offerings such as the N163 and N175 variants.

Local Production and Compliance

To comply with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Nordex Group has set up a local supply chain in the United States. The main components, such as nacelles, drives and hubs, will be manufactured on site. Production of the N169/5.X will start in 2026 at the West Branch, Iowa plant. This approach aims to meet local content requirements and benefit from the economic incentives offered by the IRA. In short, the launch of the Nordex Group’s N169/5.X turbine represents a significant step forward for the US wind energy market. This new turbine will optimize energy production while meeting local constraints, strengthening Nordex Group’s position in the US market and contributing to the local economy through production and employment opportunities.
