Volvo Buses Singapore and TES sign a memorandum of understanding to explore opportunities to achieve circular economy outcomes.
Reuse of batteries
Volvo Buses Singapore announce that the partnership is based on the electronic waste and batteries from electric vehicles. All of this waste will come from of Volvo Buses’ operations in Singapore. Thus, the objective is to find synergies concerning electronic assets and batteries at the end of their life.
The MoU allows Volvo Buses and TES to explore opportunities for collaboration in Singapore on circular economy business models. The two partners aim to determine the properties of batteries at the end of their life. Thus, both companies want to explore the options of using these batteries in second and third life.
A local partnership
TES is committed to providing details of its own e-waste and battery recycling capabilities in Asia Pacific. For its part, Volvo will provide its own market information and estimates of its regional e-waste needs.
Mats Nilsson, director of Volvo Buses APAC Central Region, says:
“Ct Volvo, we believe that partnership is the new leadership. The signing of the MOU with TES takes us a step further down the road to sustainability with one of the best possible global solutions (global standards combined with local expertise). This kicks off the development of second-life battery management as part of Volvo’s electrification journey.“
Both partners will seek to maximize their recycling potential in Singapore to serve the region. In addition, TES will help make the Swedish group a regional leader in the responsible and cost-effective management of its batteries and electronic components at the end of their life.
