Uzbekistan has benefited fromOrano’ s expertise since the announcement of the partnership with GosComGeology. In fact, the State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources has been cooperating with the French company since 2019. The two partners are developing uranium exploration and mining activities in the Djengeldi region.
This partnership in Uzbekistan led to the creation of a joint venture called Nurlikum Mining. In addition, it currently has about 50 employees. The agreement signed lays the foundation for an exclusive strategic alliance for the development of new uranium mines.
Goals for 2030
Thus, it is a significant expansion of the scope of collaboration. The agreement also calls for the implementation of several joint initiatives. These concern the development of the Djengeldi project and the accompaniment of Navoiuranium in its process of modernization.
Nicolas Maes, Executive Vice President of Orano’s mining activities, said:
“The agreement signed by the partners today reinforces Orano’s position as a leading industrial player in the uranium mining sector in Uzbekistan alongside our partner Navoiuranium and is in line with the group’s strategy to progressively increase our presence in the country and contribute to the strengthening of economic ties between France and Uzbekistan.”
For Uzbekistan, the goal is to double the accessible mineral reserves and the production rate by 2030. This agreement creates the conditions for combining technical and financial skills and resources to achieve the objectives.
